FinWise · Financial spreading & analysis

From the filing to the figure. From the figure to the reason.

FinWise spreads every financial table into a standardized, comparable series, then explains every movement, grounded in the passage of the report that accounts for it.

How it works

From arrival to action, every time.

  1. 01

    Read

The report is processed end to end and its financial statements identified

  2. 02

    Extract

Line items and values pulled from every financial table, including the complex ones

  3. 03

    Standardize

Currency, scale and taxonomy position established for every value

  4. 04

    Explain

A comment on every change: year on year, half on half or quarter on quarter

  5. 05

    Verify

Three verification passes before anything is published

Capabilities

What FinWise does.

  • Every table, however complex

Nested headers, split columns, multi-period layouts and footnoted rows, taken apart line item by line item.

  • Units established

Currency and scale identified per table, so a figure means the same thing wherever it's used later.

  • Standard taxonomy

Each line item mapped to a taxonomy position, so different labels across reports become the same measure.

  • A comparable series

A multi-year series for one company, and like-for-like comparison across companies and sectors.

  • Commentary on every change

Every row ends up either explained or not explained. Nothing is left pending or skipped.

  • Grounded in the report

Each explanation carries its page. Click it, and the report opens at the highlighted sentence.

  • Three verification passes

Numerical, attribution and consistency, all cleared before a commentary is published.

  • Like for like, always

A half-year is never measured against a quarter. Comparisons that don't match are refused.

Two outcomes, never a third.

Explained

The report accounts for the change. The passage that does is attached, with its page number and the sentence highlighted.

Not explained

The report was searched and nothing accounts for the change. That is a finding in its own right, because silence in a filing is information.

Verification

Three verification passes

  1. Pass 1 · Numerical

    Do the numbers hold?

Every figure is checked against the series in code, not by a model.

  2. Pass 2 · Attribution

    Is the claim actually supported?

Each claim is traced to a cited passage, and a sentence resting on nothing fails.

  3. Pass 3 · Consistency

    Does it contradict anything?

Checked against cited passages, sibling lines and the prior period's commentary.

All three clear: published as it stands. A pass fails: shown and flagged, with the failing check named in the analyst's own terms.

Cost of sales +6.1% YoY ExplainedVerified

“Cost of sales rose primarily on higher product and shipping costs from increased sales volume, partially offset by operational efficiencies.”
